[Nov 2017 KOTM] My current kit I built/assembled myself.

Recommended Posts

Hey all!

Here is my current kit.

Kick is a 24x14 70's Tama Imperial shell star that I salvaged.

10" Rack and 16" Floor I made from Keller shells.

14" x 5.5" Stave Red Oak snare I made myself from a red oak plank.

Beavertail lugs, 2.3 mm tiple flange hoops.

The 2nd pic (brown kick drum) is with a 70's 26x14 Imperialstar kick that I also salvaged.

2nd snare is a 14x10 stage snare also made from a red oak plank.

Great job, man. Do you like the 40 strand? I tried it on some staves I made and it just seemed off somehow, plus the sympathetic snare buzz was insane. You have to make such a sweeping bed for those wires. Did you create that snare with 40 strand in mind?

The really deep bass drums have become common now but, I really like the feel and tone of shallow kicks.

Now, of course, the builder's question - how did you round your snare shell? Do you have a shop with a lathe, or use one of the other methods out there?

Really great work rob!  The snares both look fantastic.  Nice choice with the trick strainer too!

The jelly bean style is killing my OCD

I used to be the same way until I assembled a "jelly bean" kit based on sizes.  I almost like it more than my black kit now.
